Case Study – Immune System

A 52-year-old male is admitted to the burn unit with second- and third-degree burns on his right arm, which will require skin grafts. He is HIV positive and he has hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, and depression with a generalized anxiety disorder. He is currently taking
• Lopressor™ 50 mg po qd
• Zocor™ 20 mg po qhs
• BuSpar™ 10 mg po t.i.d
• Paxil™ 20 mg po qd
He will be given morphine via PCA, 2 mg/hr basal rate with 2 mg on demand q 10 minutes with lock out set at 10 mg/hr.
During his hospital stay, his physician has him stop taking Paxil™ and start taking Prozac™ without changing his other medications.
Answer the following questions:

• How will the side effects of each medication listed influence your physical assessment of the patient?
