PROFESSOR:
Hi, Kim, yes, focusing on health trends and risk factors can help an organization determine new services to help improve the health of the community. Taking an example of diabetes, as you indicated, working individually with the patients is the best opportunity to impact their health.

Question for all: What innovative ways have you seen health systems address improving outcomes for those with diabetes and help to decrease the incidence rate in a community? RESPOND

CLASSMATE Krystle :

Many factors contribute to the demand for health care services. To determine what those factors are the needs and wants of the consumer must be considered. To measure the demand the needs of the consumer demographic, psychological, and biological factors should be evaluated. It can be measured by determining how many consumers are receiving care versus how many people need care but are not able to receive it. It should then be considered is it because of the high costs of health care, the insurances that are accepted, or limited access to services that people are not receiving the health care services that are needed. Obtaining the demographic information of the community that is being served can help better assess the need for care. If there is a high geriatric population, there is a higher demand for internal medicine physicians, home health services, and skilled nursing facilities for the aging population. Since income plays a large factor in health care, this must also be taken into consideration when gauging the demand for services. For instance, throughout the pandemic, many people have suffered from lower wages and loss of employment. During this period there was not a high demand for specific areas of medicine, such as elective procedures or treatments that were not covered by insurance. RESPOND?
