The rankings of Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs are calculated based on the average scores obtained from surveys conducted among leading academics and administrators at nursing schools or departments. These professionals assessed the overall caliber of undergraduate BSN programs they were acquainted with, utilizing a 1-5 rating scale. This article gives the top 10 BSN programs 2024.

Schools are featured and positioned in this independent peer evaluation survey if they possess bachelor ’s-level accreditation from either the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. Moreover, these institutions, accredited regionally, must have recently conferred at least 40 BSN degrees.

Top Nursing Schools Ranking Methodology

In 2023, U.S. News & World Report released its third consecutive rankings for undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs. These rankings are exclusively determined by the evaluations provided by deans and senior faculty members of nursing schools and departments across the nation who participated in a peer assessment survey.

To be eligible for participation and ranking, a nursing school or department offering the BSN degree must meet the following criteria:

Hold accreditation at the bachelor’s level from either the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.

Be a regionally accredited institution that granted a minimum of 40 BSN degrees, based on 2020-2021 data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) Data Center.

During the spring and summer of 2023, U.S. News surveyed deans and senior faculty members from each of the 657 undergraduate BSN degree-granting nursing programs meeting the above criteria. All 657 programs were ranked.

These respondents were asked to assess the academic quality of peer institutions’ BSN programs on a 5-point scale: outstanding (5), strong (4), good (3), adequate (2), or marginal (1). Those unfamiliar with a specific school’s programs were prompted to select “don’t know.”

Average peer assessment scores for each nursing program were calculated by computing a trimmed mean – excluding the two highest and two lowest scores provided by respondents. These average scores were then organized, and BSN programs were ranked in descending order based on the average peer assessment score. Among those surveyed, 30% responded.

In the comprehensive BSN ranking, programs with average peer assessment scores below 2.0 are presented in alphabetical order within a ranking range, determined by the number of programs also receiving scores below 2.0. U.S. News will furnish schools or programs listed in the ranking range with their numerical rankings upon request, provided a school official submits a request to official@usnews.com.
