Problem Statement

How does an improved sense of well-being and quality of life affect health and wellness as compare to individuals with a decreased sense of well-being?   Research has shown that a person who judges his life as going well, physically, mentally, and socially will experience better health and less prone to disease as opposed to someone who is not satisfied with his life (Georgia, 2017).  According to Healthy People 2020, “health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being not merely an absence of disease and infirmity” (www.healthypeople.gov).

Research Purpose

The purpose of this research is to determine the effects of a person’s lifestyle and attitude on the prevention of and management of chronic diseases.

Population

This research will focus on the general population.

Intervention

Educating families on the importance of exercise, healthy diet, stress reduction, and positive self-image on preventing disease and creating a healthier lifestyle (www.healthypeople.gov).  With individuals who have a decrease quality of life, education and tools will be given to help create a more positive outlook on his life, health and mental well-being to better manage chronic disease and to develop a better quality of life.

Comparison

Compare wellness and health in the individuals who have a better quality of life and sense of self-worth in those who have a lower quality of life and self-esteem.

Outcome

Develop educational tools that will help educate society and communities on the importance of a healthy lifestyle – good balance of diet and physical activity, sense of self-worth, and stress management to prevent or better manage chronic diseases (Georgis, 2017).  Help individuals who do not have a healthy diet and exercise, low self-esteem, and poor stress management skills develop an improved and healthier lifestyle to be able to manage chronic illnesses they may already have.

Time

This is a study that can be continued during the life span of a family or community.  After a six-month period of time however, data can start to be collected to determine the effects of a healthy lifestyle and positive self-image can have on health and wellness.
