Human resources must deal with compliance for individual and group behaviors, ensuring that applicable laws and policies are followed. They must be able to educate employees about specific laws, and create policies and procedures for employees; they must also be able to make certain that employees follow these policies and procedures(Davis & Carnovall, 2019). Failure to enforce the organization’s policies may result in injuries to employees or patients or significant fines due to violations. HR can offer proper education and training for regulatory and legal requirements; compliance training can be done through regular online education or courses. New employees may be given an employee handbook that clearly articulates the organization’s policies and procedures. All training and education should be routinely updated to comply with any changing laws or regulations and should include the latest information available.

External political regulations can directly affect an organization and its policies and operations. During the pandemic, many healthcare facilities had to adhere to new standards or regulations handed down by the CDC. During the early months of the pandemic, recommendations were constantly changing and required human resources to constantly reevaluate organizational policies. In the wake of the pandemic, many healthcare facilities are also experiencing staffing deficiencies. Currently, shortages of specialists, generalists, nurses, and other specialized medical healthcare professionals hamper the ability to deliver high-quality care(Lytle, 2020). Staffing shortages can lead to internal pressure in an organization as it limits the level of operation and places additional strain on the current staff. As staffing shortages increase, there are fewer resources and people to produce the same quality of care and many employees may experience a higher rate of burnout. Human resources will need to be able to find alternative solutions and strategies to overcome staffing shortages.
