Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation is recognized as a gold standard for healthcare organizations worldwide. JCI-accredited facilities must meet a rigorous set of standards designed to improve patient safety and quality of care(Wang et al., 2015). A JCI accreditation visit can be a daunting prospect for any healthcare organization. However, there are steps that facility leaders can take to prepare for the visit and ensure a successful outcome. First, it is important to thoroughly review the JCI standards and identify any areas of non-compliance. Next, a plan should be developed to correct any deficiencies. The plan should be shared with all organization members, and adequate time should be allowed for implementation. Finally, it is important to conduct a mock survey to assess the level of staff preparedness.

As a Healthcare Quality Specialist at a healthcare facility, I would initiate and implement various steps and processes over one year in preparation for an initial Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation visit. I would consult with key personnel, such as the medical director, executive director, and nursing leader, to discuss the organization’s readiness for accreditation. I would also assemble a team of key personnel responsible for the various aspects of the process. This team should include representatives from all areas of the healthcare facility and those with experience in JCI accreditation(Jointcommissioninternational.org, 2022). The next step is to develop a performance and quality improvement plan. This plan should identify the specific standards that need to be met to achieve JCI accreditation and outline the steps that will be taken to meet those standards.
To prepare for a JCI accreditation visit, the key personnel should develop a risk prevention plan. The risk prevention plan should include a review of JCI standards, a review of similar accreditation visits in other facilities, and a plan to address any identified risks. In order to prepare for a JCI visit, key personnel should review the risk prevention procedures and make sure that they are being followed correctly (Shaikh et al., 2018). By taking these steps, key personnel can help ensure that the hospital is prepared for JCI accreditation and that the risk of losing accreditation is minimized.

Joint Commission International accreditation guarantees patients that we provide high-quality and safe care at all times. However, a joint commission has to visit the facility for my organization to be accredited. As a healthcare specialist, I will follow the following process and step to prepare for the visit.
Baseline assessment
The first step is identifying whether the facility is ready to launch the accreditation. It is an important step as it affects the overall survey. I can ask the JCI consultants to help me with the on-site assessment to ensure that I identify everything that needs improvement.
Custom education
After carrying out the assessment, I can identify areas that need attention. Thus I can request on-site education on the topics that need assistance. This will also help my staff learn what the survey expects.
Prepare Facilities management
Evaluate facility management in terms of emergency and safety preparedness (Awan et al., 2020). I will focus mainly on the older buildings and more critical areas and their challenges.
Focused consulting
I will identify areas that are struggling with compliance. Most of these areas are highly prioritized in the actual survey. My leadership and the staff will work together with experts to develop a schedule. However, we also need to identify the solution for the struggling compliance, and we can use workgroups, focused tracers, and training.
Mock survey
The facility will carry out a mock survey before accreditation. This is to determine the facility readiness and which areas need to be addressed. The staff will be prepared for the actual survey through the mock survey as they know what is expected of them. JCI consultants will help me with the survey as they understand what the actual survey entails.
Quality improvement
After identifying all the compliance and areas that need improvement, I will carry out an educational workshop or custom training next. This helps drive continuous quality improvement across all facility departments and functions.
Tracer methodology
This methodology is the foundation of the philosophy for JCI accreditation (Awan et al., 2020). Thus will carry out education programs to ensure all the staffs know how to use the user techniques. However, when they know how to use the tracer technique, they are closer to integrating a patient safety mindset.
