Theoretical Concept

A theoretical perspective on positive emotions such as broaden-and-build theory will fit well in framing the research of this individual. The broaden-and-build theory was developed by Barbara Frederickson as a means of dealing with the limited research on the impact of positive emotions as there was more emphasis on negative emotions. Broaden-and-build theory evaluates the function of positive emotions in developing resiliency. According to Fredrickson (2001), her theory points out that positive emotional experiences widen individuals’ momentary thought-action repertoires, and in return build their enduring personal resources, ranging from intellectual to physical resources to psychological and social resources. Fredrickson posits that positive emotions are markers of optimal well-being and flourishing. Barbra stipulates that the time that people’s lives are characterized by positive emotions such as interest, joy, love, and contentment are the times that they are not plagued by negative emotions such as sadness, anxiety, despair, and anger. Barbra goes on further to point out that a balance between negative and positive emotions likely predicts individuals’ judgment of subjective well-being.

Finding a means of dealing with stress among type 2 diabetic patients will significantly improve their self-management practices which allow for experiencing a quality life. Stress-relieving practices such as yoga are easily attainable, affordable, and have demonstrated effectiveness over time in improving both the physical and emotional well-being of people who practice it. Vizcaino (2017) posits that yoga practice improves psychological stress which in return limits the influence of the physiological response to stress which allows the body to improve metabolism and finally improve glucose control. In the same light, the broaden-and-build theory stipulates that positive emotions can broaden the response and awareness to events and build coping and resiliency. Yoga can encourage feelings of happiness, satisfaction, enjoyment, interest, gratitude, hope, and confidence all of which will encourage older diabetic patients to continue pursuing healthy lifestyles and other self-management practices encourages in the management of diabetes.

Question 2: Review the classmates’ posts and respond to at least one in a minimum of 150 words. Explain why you agree or disagree. Then, share an example from your professional experience to support your assertions.

The proposed study on the effects of COVID-19 on Florida nursing home health care worker burnout may uncover many benefits to the scholarly community, practitioner field of study, and leader field of study. The significance this proposed study may have on the scholarly community is the benefit of gaining additional knowledge on the topic due to further research being conducted based on the findings of this study. When a researcher selects a topic they conduct a literature review of scientific studies on their topic, during this review the researcher is looking to identify gaps in research studies that were previously conducted to establish a solution to a problem (James & Slater, 2014). Identifying additional research opportunities to close the gap, would lead to practitioners having more research available to assist with addressing nursing home health care worker burnout through practicing evidence-based strategies. Evidence-based practice incorporates individual professional experience with current applicable research (Rodríguez-Nogueira et al., 2021). Following evidence-based practices will assist a leader in the field of study in many ways. Studies have shown that clinical health care professionals trained in evidence-based practices improved expertise, abilities, and confidence (Ramos-Morcillo et al., 2015). The available research would allow the leaders to establish programing practitioners could follow. According to Kapucu and Hu (2020), “Disaster response networks often require a core group of organizations, rather than a single agency serving as a decisionmaking body” (pg. 20). The response and challenges faced due to COVID-19 were of unimaginable magnitude, lesson learned will need to be used to prepare leaders for a more effective response in future pandemics.
