PSY 202 Week 1 DQ 2 Recent

Most people would define ethical behavior as “doing the right thing.”  Most people do not want to associate or do business with people who engage in unethical behaviors, such as lying, cheating, and stealing. Academic integrity creates a culture in which students, faculty, and staff can trust one another to act with honesty, fairness, responsibility, and respect. Cheating, lying, and plagiarizing (presenting someone else’s work as your own) are behaviors that are counter to Ashford University’s culture of honor and integrity. Sometimes a student may think that it is acceptable to copy and paste content from the Internet and submit this as their own work. Sometimes a student may falsify a story to his or her instructor in hopes of getting an extension on an assignment. These behaviors diminish academic integrity. We will be exploring more scenarios on these topics in the upcoming weeks. Share your thoughts on this topic by answering the following questions:

  • What does academic integrity mean to you?
  • Why do you think it is important for a university to maintain high standards when it comes to academic integrity?
  • Would you want to attend a university that did not have these standards? Explain?
