Pain Evaluation: John, a 46-year-old African-American male, arrives at your hospital for hemi-colectomy for colon polyps. He is suffering from chronic back pain. The patient is on disability due to a work-related injury. Two (2) previous back surgeries have resulted in relief of numbness in RLE but not pain relief. Methadone, Neurontin, and Norco are among his current medications. In addition to his prescribed medications, John claims to take Benadryl PM every night. John is a smoker who consumes 1 PPD. John tells you that he is thinking about getting a spinal cord stimulator to help with his chronic pain.
