Community health workers have the potential to improve access and quality of primary care, but they are underutilized. We described the roles and activities of community health workers in primary care by a literature analysis and synthesis to provide guidelines on their integration. Twelve functions (care coordination, health coaching, social support, health assessment, resource linking, case management, medication management, remote care, follow-up, administration, health education, and literacy support) and three prominent roles (clinical services, community resource connections, and health education and coaching) were identified after a review of 30 studies. We talk about how community health worker training and clinical support in primary care can be affected.

according to NURS 530 Assignment the role of the community clinic Increased health-care expenditures and demand have heightened the need for resource-saving strategies that improve primary-care access and delivery. Community health workers in primary care (CHW-PCs) are trained professionals who provide patient-facing support and services in basic care and have little to no formal medical education. CHW-PCs perform person-centered responsibilities, such as supporting team-based care, addressing socioeconomic determinants of health, and promoting health care access, patient involvement, and results. 1–4 Frontline health professionals have historically been most effective when they share ethnicity, language, socioeconomic background, and life experiences with the community they serve,5 indicating peer support. 6 A growing body of research shows how community health workers, who are best recognized for their work in community and global settings5,7,8, may be used in primary care in a variety of ways. Despite their ability to participate as members of the care team,9–12 CHW-PCs are underutilized. 7,11 There is a need for guidance on how to best promote and expand CHW-PCs. CHW-PC jobs differ from clinic to clinic, with a variety of job titles and responsibilities, making it difficult to establish best practices. 2,3 What CHW-PCs do, as well as their training and clinical support needs, are all viewed differently.
