To improve health outcomes and reduce obesity-related problems, nurses can help patients and families to understand the risks of obesity and educate them on the recommended amount of screen time and physical activity. Search Methods

When promoting change through EBP projects, nurses must use evidence-based interventions backed by scientific evidence. This evidence is obtained from scholarly sources. After formulating the PICOT question, I searched for scholarly sources from leading nursing databases such as CINAHL, PubMed, Medline, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. 1. Introduction – Describe the clinical issue or problem you are addressing. Present your PICOT statement.
2. Search methods – Describe your search strategy and the criteria that you used in choosing and searching for your articles.
3. Synthesis of the literature – For each article, write a paragraph discussing the main components (subjects, methods, key findings) and provide rationale for how the article supports your PICOT.
4. Comparison of articles – Compare the articles (similarities and differences, themes, methods, conclusions, limitations, controversies).
5. Suggestions for future research: Based on your analysis of the literature, discuss identified gaps and which areas require further research.
6. Conclusion – Provide a summary statement of what you found in the literature.

Conclusion

Type 2 diabetes produces ravaging effects on the African-American population due to their genetic predisposition among other factors. A cumulative analysis of relevant articles reveals that the use of health information technologies can improve the adherence to medication by patients with type 2 diabetes. However, there exist weaknesses that threaten the use of the evidence presented in them. They include the lack of utilization of human subjects, study bias, and small sample sizes that cannot be generalized to the larger population. Therefore, addressing the above weaknesses and ensuring that studies that are biased towards African-Americans and the general population needs to occur.

Methods

Peer reviewed articles were used in this research. They were obtained from GCU Library. A search criterion was developed for use in the determining the suitable articles that support the PICOT question. The selection of articles for this research was done according to the recommendations by Curtis et al., (2017) in their research. According to them, researchers should utilize knowledge distillation where specific inclusion and exclusion criteria are used in selecting, synthesizing, and translating findings into practice. Therefore, the selection of the articles was based on whether they met the pre-developed inclusion and exclusion criteria. One of the aspects that were taken into consideration in the selection of the articles was the language used. The articles must have been written in English language. The other criteria were that the articles must have focused on the use of health information technologies in improving the management of type 2 diabetes. The third criterion was the year of publication of the articles. The articles must have been published with thin the last five years. The obtained articles that did not meet the above criteria were excluded for use in this review of literature.
