Write an argument about an existing social justice or legislative policy in the U.S. Survey and analyze the pro and con arguments on the issue as scholars, authorities, and politicians have presented them over the past five or so years. You might want to use articles from CQ Researcher for this part of the assignment. What is the history of the issue, both from a social context and as it affects Americans in 2022? How has the issue been presented by experts and political representatives? Organize your essay as an argument, using the following guidelines:

In the introduction, present a context for your discussion, perhaps the history of the controversy. What are the main points of disagreement regarding this American issue today? I suggest using reliable news sources and academic journal articles to help you with this investigation. Your introduction should be a page or so of dense text that includes at least one source and in-text citation.
Also in the introduction, present your position on the issue, your claim/argument thesis statement. Develop your thesis so that it is a claim of policy; an arguable, qualified, statement, not a question. Be sure to state a clear position.
The body of your essay should be an effective synthesis of six (6) or more well-chosen sources in support of your position. I have limited the scope of your research because I fully expect you to read and evaluate all the sources. Present the evidence you have discovered to support your position: Evidence should be credible, logical, and timely. Organize your paper using climactic or conventional order or a clear organizational strategy.
Use at least six (6) required sources to develop the paper (read carefully):
• Three (3) academic journal or scholarly articles/books taken from databases
• One (1) non-print media source: reliable media sources (e.g., CNN, NPR), and library reference materials including films, documentaries, and interviews.
• Two (2) or more news magazines or newspapers (e.g., Time, Newsweek, New York Times, Washington Post)
• Only one (1) Website (not required)
• Cite these sources in your text using MLA, remembering that failure to document borrowed ideas constitutes plagiarism.
Develop an effective counterargument to one point of the opposing view to your position. Begin by stating the opposition to your view. Then, develop a response to this view. You may choose to refute the opposing view, concede to some element(s) of the opposing argument, or effectively acknowledge that
the opposing view should somehow be considered.
Your paper should at least two times incorporate important rhetorical strategies covered this semester, e.g., ethos, pathos and logos (induction/deduction).
Finally, develop an effective conclusion.
