List some steps you could take to do the cultural labor necessary to deepen and enrich that relationship.

Next, pick at least one item from your list and do the (racial) work! You might, for example, attend service online at a mosque with a Muslim coworker or to your roommate’s majority-white church. You might read a memoir about growing up in a border town, or in south side Chicago, or in an ethnic enclave. And so on.
