The majority of medical, dental, nursing, and other professions schools, as well as their teaching hospitals, are heavily subsidized by federal and state funds. When they become health practitioners, many of those graduates feel no obligation to society for their publicly funded education. Do health-care providers who benefit from high pay and social standing have an ethical obligation to repay taxpayers by meeting the needs of the medically underserved?
Medical technology advancements have resulted in an ever-increasing number of specialty-trained personnel. However, hospitals and other institutions have recently promoted cross-training of personnel so that they can perform multiple tasks and work more flexibly, depending on the needs of the institution. What are the implications of cross training for care quality, cost, and efficiency?
Men make up a small proportion of the nursing workforce, but their numbers are growing. Given the high earning potential and ongoing demand for nurses, what is your take on why the profession does not attract more men?

If we accept the premises that the resources available to meet the costs of health care are finite, and that increasing dollars allocated for health care expenses carries “opportunity costs” for the nation and society, consider your position on the following: Should we allocate a set amount of resources and apply them to achieving “the greatest good for the greatest number” (necessarily leaving some out) as a national policy OR should we take the individualist approach of “those who can pay get, those who can’t pay don’t?”
