Please respond to the following discussion post as a peer making a comment. “Authentic leadership is a theory that leaders are seen as genuine and “real.” Authentic leadership works on the principle that a leader can prove their legitimacy by nurturing sincere relationships with their subordinates and giving importance to their input (Scouts, 2021). An individual that I believe exhibits authentic leadership is my current supervisor. As an authentic leader, she encourages my coworkers and I to achieve our personal and organizational goals, as well as shows her appreciation for our success within and outside of the organization. My supervisor also takes the time to get to know me on a personal level and wants to help me achieve my educational and work goals.

For example, my supervisor helped me find a preceptor and helped get our current workplace approved for when I begin my practicum work-study hours to complete my master’s program. Additionally, my supervisor has shown trust in me and allows me to work from home a couple of days per week. When considering the characteristics and elements of conscious capitalism (purpose, stakeholder, culture, and leadership), my supervisor is finding ways to honor the voices of the stakeholders and the organization. This is because by creating trust and followership within the workplace, authentic leadership reinforces workers’ emotional connection with their organizations, thereby increasing their individual creativity and, subsequently, promoting better on-the-job performance (Duarte et al., 2021). This ultimately results in increased harmony between employers and employees, greater employee and customer satisfaction, and enhanced stakeholder loyalty.
