  • A major area where I feel led to become a thought leader involves the youth and newly-married couples. In current times, the youth seem to be highly misguided, due to which they end up on the wrong path. There are several instances where young individuals take drugs, use weapons, and are involved in illegal practices. By taking such unholy paths, they destroy their present and future. As a thought leader, I can guide them towards the path of Jesus so that they can lead a life that is filled with love and honesty. Similarly, when I see newly married couples that get divorced due to external temptation and unfaithfulness, I feel they need to be shown a faithful and honest path so that they can lead a happy and fulfilling life as a married couple. I feel that by acting as a thought leader I would like to extend help to such couples.

  • One of the key areas of research that is emerging in recent times that I find interesting revolves around young individuals. Youth are the future of tomorrow. They need to follow the right direction so that their future can be bright and they can bring about a positive change in their surroundings (Scribner, 2014). A thought leader can play an instrumental role in helping youths of the current generation to stay away from different types of temptations that can increase their distance from Jesus Christ.
  • I believe that the Lord wants me to serve as a thought leader for the youth so that I can guide them and help them understand the true value of Jesus Christ. As a thought leader, I would basically use the Holy Bible as my main instrument to guide and inform youth to lead a righteous and honest path by listening to their parents instead of getting attracted to worldly temptations (Scribner, 2014). For bringing about a positive difference for him in the specific area, I would use Proverbs 1:8-9, which states that ‘Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teachings, for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck.’
  • There is a slight clarification has been presented as compared to the previous post which revolved around ‘becoming a thought leader.’ I have presented an in-depth explanation on why I am interested to serve as a thought leader for the youth generation. Since the current youth seems to be lost and distant from Christ, I want them to show them the direction towards the Almighty by serving as a thought leader.

The areas in which I feel led to become a thought leader are clinical psychology and educational psychology. These two areas have the potential to overlap as clinical research can impact the field of education. However, one cannot cross both roles simultaneously due to ethical considerations with a dual relationship and research (APA, 2017).

An emerging area that interests me is the area of mental health in the field of education. In the midst of the pandemic, it was clear to see how the mental health of others was impacted. During the pandemic, my position as a group counselor in a private non-profit organization was terminated as a result of not being able to meet and a shortage in enrollment. However, after a while, the agency was asking for me to return due to people coming back into the field. Therefore, it was clear that the field was growing again. Additionally, as a current educator in a high school setting, it is evident how mental health reform is beginning to be implemented within the schools. The discussions around mental health are not as taboo and students are starting to be more open about mental health concerns. Furthermore, our district has implemented a program for students to become advocates for mental health reform and they are able to learn about signs that someone needs assistance.

First, I feel as though the Lord is still tying me to both clinical counseling and the teaching field. For now, I am not sure why and I am not sure which one will need my attention more. However, I have been able to identify significant mental health concerns and be an advocate within the school district, while avoiding dual relationships and things of that nature. I feel led to learn more about mental health concerns in young people and methods of treatment. Additionally, I feel led to research more about intelligence and mental health concerns in order to explore a possible correlation.

There are no major changes or clarifications to my original discussion post regarding becoming a thought leader. However, Sproul’s text, The Consequences of Ideas (2000), has influenced my thoughts. For instance, I feel inspired to continue to question and dig deeper into the thoughts and ideas that I have. Although some areas of research are limited, it is possible that I could assist in developing the area more and opening up additional research in the field.
