ANSWER 1 BY Christine Dykes (RESPOND BY HALF A PAGE AND ONE REFERENCE )
Nursing diagnoses are important to the career of a professional nurse which is why they are taught throughout nursing education programs.

The members of the Georgia Board of Nursing uphold the importance of the nursing process and the use of nursing diagnoses as seen in the definition of a practicing professional nurse. The Georgia board of nursing specifies in the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act (2017) that a professional nurse requires specific education and knowledge to perform the nursing process. The Georgia Nurse Practice Act (2017) also reads that to practice nursing for compensation includes duties such as establishing a nursing diagnosis.
There are both advantages and disadvantages to the use of nursing diagnoses to plan patient care. Nursing diagnoses are based on scientific evidence which is reviewed by the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA) before being published (NANDA International, n.d.). Most importantly, performing nursing care based on a nursing diagnosis that has been developed from a thorough nursing assessment provides a more reliable and holistic care plan than care based only on the medical diagnosis (Herdman, n.d.). However, a cross-sectional designed study using both qualitative and quantitative methods revealed that 90% of the nurses in the study were unable to accurately discuss their patients nursing diagnosis or care plan (Hagos, Alemseged, Balcha, Berhe, & Aregay, 2013) highlighting the need for more education and requirements concerning nursing diagnoses and care plans.
After reviewing the advantages and disadvantages of the use of the nursing process and nursing diagnoses, this nurse has concluded that the use of nursing diagnoses is a way to provide the most holistic patient care. Using scientific evidence to provide holistic and thorough nursing care is inarguably the best way to ensure nursing care. When nurses are armed with an exceptional knowledge of the use of nursing diagnoses, patient care will improve with continuity of care across all nursing shifts.

The State of Georgia Registered Professional Nurse Practice Act (2018) describes the registered nurse obligations according to the State of Georgia. In that description, the act defines nursing by referencing the nurse’s practice and professional use of the nursing diagnosis by assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient (www.sos.ga.gov, 2018).

This writer believes that using the nursing diagnosis is an essential part of patient care. The main advantage to using nursing diagnosis is the improvement of critical thinking because it is fundamental to achieve diagnostic accuracy since the establishment of nursing diagnoses is a complex and multidimensional process that requires a critical attitude (Passos Vaz, 2016). This writer thinks that although at times it is may not be convenient to document the entire nursing diagnosis the process of the nursing diagnosis is integral when providing patient care. Documenting should be an accurate so when presented in the form of nursing diagnosis allows for standardized communication between nursing and medical staff (Tuinman, 2017). Effective communication between staff provided safety, continuity of care, and well-being of all patients (Tuinman, 2017). The downside to nursing diagnosis is the time it takes to document the entire process. Another disadvantage is that often one nurse may start the nursing process but relies on others nurses to either plan, implement and evaluate the outcomes due to time constraints, scheduling, or patient transfers to other areas (Passos Vaz, 2016).
