Module 03 Discussion
Agencies
and Who They Serve
For this
discussion, review the various healthcare settings in your reading (such as
hospital, community health center, etc.) and select one. Once selected,
research the internet to identify a facility that represents your selected
healthcare delivery setting. Review their website and determine:
Location
and size
Mission and
values
Accreditation
and awards
How long
they have been serving their target population
Whether
they are part of a system or a single institution
Are they
for profit or not-for profit
The target
populations they serve
clinical and client services they provide
The type of
staff who work in the setting
Contributions
to the community
In a two to
three paragraph discussion post, identify key aspects of the selected
healthcare setting, how their mission and values compare with the services they
provide and their target populations, the type of staff who work there, any
special or unique aspects of the healthcare setting, and your impression of the
healthcare setting after reviewing their website. You don’t need to identify
the name of the healthcare setting just the type.
Dimensions of nurse caring were elicited through nurse and patient responses on the revised Caring Behaviors Inventory (CBI), a 43-item instrument. Subjects included 278 nurses and 263 patients and former patients. An exploratory factor analysis using the principal components method with varimax rotation was used to identify CBI dimensions; a five factor solution resulted. The five dimensions of nurse caring were respectful deference to others, assurance of human presence, positive connectedness, professional knowledge and skill, and attentiveness to the other’s experience.
The distinctive characteristics of nursing practice in these five dimensions that set nursing practice apart from ordinary human practice are in the goals and meaning structure of nursing practice. The scientific dimension has become the central aspect of nursing practice, resulting from the development of nursing’s knowledge system and its professionalization in modern times. The technical dimension of nursing practice refers to the performance of techniques in nursing practice, and is guided by technical rationality. Nursing’s professional organizations have been involved in establishing sets of ethical standards for nursing to be used as the guides for ethical nursing practice.
