Rebecca reluctantly pulls her sleeves up, revealing several new superficial scars as well as multiple older scars spanning from her wrists to her elbow joints. The nonsuicidal self-injurious behaviors began about two years ago, during a difficult period for Rebecca as her family relocated across the country for the fourth time since she began school. Rebecca explains that her father is in the military and that they move frequently. She claims that in seventh grade, she was bullied a lot by her new classmates, and that at the time, a girl at school taught her how to cut. Peer pressure among teenage girls became difficult to deal with in addition to being bullied. Some of the boys in her class were interested in her, but the more dominant, established girls put up a serious fight.
